How to: Cleanse with New Wash

How can a cream cleanser possibly get my hair clean??

It takes a bit of a unique approach, but with my hair help I know you can do it! I’m going to break it down for you in steps first, then at the bottom of this post you’ll find my five minute vlog with extra details and tidbits from my personal experience!

Get ready for some cream cleansed happy hair!

First, two points to consider:

  • Don’t think about how much product you’re using or how much you NEED to use. Because I’m helping you from across the Internet (maybe across the world), theres no way I can tell you how much product you need to use. You need to use ENOUGH. Add a little at a time and over time you’ll start to figure out!

  • Consider that your hairline goes all the way around your head. Most of the time we think of our hairline as just the front hairline, but it does in fact continue behind the ears and down along the nape of your neck. The lower hairline is most often where hair will feel “dirty” first and also where those new to New Wash will tend to have a hard time at first. Especially for the purposes of this blog, DON’T NEGLECT THE FULL HAIRLINE!

Alright lets dive in!

  1. Make sure your hair is completely soaking wet. For long hair I’ll start by adding a bit of New Wash through the ends to start with hair detangled- this makes it easier to access your scalp.

  2. Take a nickel coin sized amount of New Wash in your hands and then rub your hands together to get New Wash all the way to the tips of your fingers. Working from the front hairline, rake New Wash onto your scalp all the way back to the very top of your crown (highest point right between both ears). As you rake the product through, notice how it feels- oil and product on your scalp will have a stick to it. When New Wash makes contact it feels slippery. Keep working product onto the front half of your head adding a small amount of product at a time if you need more- until you can feel that slip New Wash feeling all the way from the front hairline to the crown.

  3. Repeat step two, but this time working from your back hairline to where you left off. I like to completely flip my head upside-down for easy access and to get the heavy weight of wet hair off of the section I’m working on. You could also tilt your head 90 degrees to each side for the same access without fully flipping. Add product a little at a time as you need, until you feel that slip from New Wash all the way from your back hairline to your crown.

  4. Next, add water. Flash your head for 1-3 seconds back under the shower stream. Then, work New Wash and water around your scalp like you would a shampoo. There won’t be bubbles, but there will be a squishing, scrubbing feelind as you work the product around and work old product, oils etc off of your scalp.

  5. If you like to use the scalp brush, now is the perfect time! Get that baby in there to help with the squishing and give yourself a good head massage.

  6. You can leave New Wash in your hair as long as you like. I’ll sometimes leave mine up to 30 minutes like a deep conditioner when my hair is feeling particularly dry.

  7. When it’s time to rinse, stand under the full stream of the shower while continuing a scrubbing motion all over your scalp with your fingertips. As you do this you’ll feel that your fingers help guide water to all the harder to reach section of your scalp- ensuring that all the product gets washed out. For good measure, I always rinse twice!

I hope this is helpful! I love New Wash and the great things I’ve seen it do for my scalp and hair as well as my clients’.
